MEDICARE

Medicare is the federal health insurance program for older persons and individuals with disabilities. Individuals are entitled to Medicare by virtue of payment into the system during their working years.

EPIC

EPIC is New York State’s prescription plan for senior citizens. You must be 65 or over, live in New York State, and have an income of less than $17,500 if you are single, or $23,000 if you are married. If you, or someone you know, spends more than $15 per month on prescriptions, it would be worth filing an application.

MEDICAL ASSISTANCE FOR CHILDREN & FAMILIES:

MEDICAID

Medicaid is a federal program of medical assistance that is administered by local agencies.

Medicaid will pay for many medical costs, including hospital and doctor charges, laboratories, medicines, nursing homes, etc. There are income and resource requirements. If you get Public Assistance or Supplemental Security Income, you may be automatically eligible for Medicaid.

Pregnant Women and young children may be eligible for Medicaid even with higher income levels.
