Program Director/Coordinator for Crown Heights Center for Career Development

Position Objective:

This position will initiate the start-up phase of the Employment Bridge Program, design and develop the program and fully establish it in the community.   The goal of the Bridge Program is to assist young members of the Crown Heights Community of Brooklyn to fully develop their near- and long-term career plans to enable them to pursue gratifying/satisfying employment in occupations that can support a family.

Essential Functions:

Has overall responsibility for the design, development, operation and outcomes of all phases of the program.

Management and administration:

  • Provides overall leadership, daily management and administrative direction of the program.
  • Builds relationships with community leaders and partner organizations within the community of Crown Heights.
  • Works with the community partners to market the program.
  • Provides supervision to one staff support position; selects, assigns and supervises training consultants for the program, including specialists providing the delivery of computer instruction and sector–specific training within the program.
  • Ensures design, development and implementation of evaluation system.

 

Programmatic:

  • Ensures the design of program materials and curricula for use in the program.
  • Oversees the recruitment of appropriate candidates for the program.
  • Provides information and orientation to interested applicants.
  • Directs the administration of screening tools, tests and application materials to interested applicants.
  • Selects the participants for inclusion in the cohort models.
  • For each cohort of participants, ensures that comprehensive assessment, career exploration activities, one-on-one career counseling, interest inventories and other career-related tools are provided. Ensures quality assurance.
  • Together with planning team, identifies, designs and develops industry sector(s) for the sector cohort. Identifies and engages a sector-specialist consultant to provide instruction in sector cohort.
  • Identifies internship sites by engaging and involving businesses interested in participating in the internship phase of the program. Maintains relationship with key businesses selected for participation.
  • Assigns participants to internships and monitors/assures the day-to-day successful participation in the internship.
  • Coordinates and directs the weekly feed-back sessions of internships with participants.
  • Formulates career plan for each individual upon completion of the program and provides written scaffolding of the career trajectory for each individual.
  • Assists with post-program planning to include referral to a scholarship training program, referral for direct job placement, literacy development, higher education and/or other referrals as indicated.
  • Identifies and refers participants to ancillary or supportive services.

Skills and Experience Required:

Experience managing a community-focused program. Preference will be given to a candidate with experience developing, implementing and managing career/employment/workforce development programs. Excellent ability to work effectively in a community setting.  Excellent organizational, written and verbal communications skills.

Minimum of 5 years professional and managerial experience in one or more of the following fields:  corporate outplacement, executive search, career management, career coaching/guidance, employment counseling, economic/workforce development, community/youth development, education.

Knowledge of labor market trends.

Educational Requirements:

Master’s Degree in business administration, human resources, social work, or related field preferred.   Location: Brooklyn.
