Help with your Rent
Having a hard time paying your rent? You may be able to get help! Call us at 718-771-9000 x7724 if you are eligible for SCRIE, DRiE, or other governmental programs that can freeze your rent. We can also help with other benefits like Food Stamps that can reduce your food bill and leave you with more money for housing.
Eviction Prevention
Being threatened with eviction? We may be able to help. We can help you negotiate a payment plan with your landlord, and identify resources in the community that can help you catch up. For information call Batia at 718-771-9000 x7722.
If you end up in Housing Court, we can help direct you to free legal help and guide you through the process.
Renter’s Rights
You do not need to put up with substandard or dangerous living conditions. If your apartment is not fit to live in, you may be able to compel your landlord to make repairs. Call Batia at 718-771-9000 x7722.
Affordable Housing
Rents in our area are getting out of control. Crown Heights Jewish Community Council manages several buildings where apartments are rented at affordable rates. Your income must be within the guidelines for each apartment. Apartments become available every so often, and we have a waiting list of applicants. Call Batia at 718-771-9000 x7722 to place your name on the list.
Rental Resource
If you need a place to rent or buy, or have a place available, contact the reception desk at the CHJCC. We keep a file of people looking for places to buy or rent, and those with properties available in the neighborhood. Come to the CHJCC offices at 387 Kingston Avenue for an updated copy.
Short Term Rentals
If you need a place to stay for just a few days or weeks, come to the CHJCC for the list of short term rentals available in the neighborhood.
